Finding Virtual Assistant Work With Assistant Match

I have received a few questions about Assistant Match — a website I have linked on the virtual assisting page in my directory. Some people get confused as to whether or not this is a job opportunity for virtual assistants or something else, so I did some digging to find out what I can.

About Assistant Match

When you visit the company’s “About” page, it’s clear they are a staffing agency. If you aren’t familiar with what a staffing agency does, they basically just find qualified workers for companies that need them. Assistant Match is in the business of matching qualified remote virtual assistants with companies or individuals who need VA services. They have been in business since 2007 and they were mentioned on the Today show as a viable resource for anyone looking into work from home virtual assisting. I dug around to find that clip, and you can see it here.

Income Potential?

Your pay will depend on the kind of work you’re doing. Someone asked about this on the WAHM forum and one of the placement specialists at Assistant Match responded and said it can range from $12-15 per hour for general/admin work and up to $20-25 per hour for graphic design, writing work, and web design.

Amount of Work

Assistant Match advertises that they can provide VA’s for a variety of different tasks and that the VA’s they match with the companies will only work the number of hours that the employer needs. So how much you work, how long, etc. is going to depend on the employer.

If you are a virtual assistant, Assistant Match stresses that you should not rely on their company solely for finding clients, so always having something to do isn’t a guarantee.

Open Worldwide?

No, it doesn’t appear to be. Assistant Match only works with US-based virtual assistants.

Tech Requirements

Here are the minimum tech requirements for potential VA’s at Assistant Match (taken from the website):

• Computer w/high speed internet, MS Office, and daily file backup
• Dedicated phone line
• Printer, scanner, or fax
• Must provide a quiet work environment

Qualifications

You need to be able to communicate professionally via phone and email and also be willing to respond to email and voice mail daily. It doesn’t look like you necessarily have to have VA experience to register and qualify for jobs, but the site states that they often give preference to people with experience working in a home office and also those who are running their own VA businesses.

Requests For Payment?

You do not have to pay anything to register yourself with Assistant Match. There are some people who have been confused about this because the company does sell a quick start self-study program for aspiring virtual assistants. This is advertised on their “Become a Virtual Assistant” page along with the other information about actually signing up and getting work. But it does not look like you have to take this course in order to register.

Getting Work Through Assistant Match

All you have to do to register yourself at Assistant Match is fill out their contact form. You can find a link to it on their “Become a Virtual Assistant” page just underneath the VA resources and training sections. Being registered means you’ll get email notifications when they are looking for new VA’s for various projects. You can then get in touch and let them know if you’d be a strong candidate for any work they’re advertising for. I also noticed that they post job openings here at their VA Quick Start site.
If you are considered to do VA work for one of their clients, you will have to submit to a background check first.
