Work From Home Transcription For Transcribe Team

Transcribe Team has frequently advertised that they have work from home transcription openings available over the last several months. I took a closer look today and I see that this is one of those companies where no experience in transcription is actually needed to get started. However, this also means low pay. As always, I recommend that you use these low-pay transcription companies that hire beginners as a jumping off point to better paying transcription jobs. You can expect to gain some experience and earn a little extra money, but you might not do more than that here.

About the Company

Transcribe Team is a new company that just got started in mid-2013. They are based in the US and their parent company is called Ad Lean.

Pay

They pay between .45 and .65 cents per audio minute. If you’re new to transcription, it’s important to keep in mind how different an audio minute is from an actual minute. Depending on how complex the audio you’re trying to transcribe is, it will likely take you several minutes to transcribe one minute of audio. You can expect to receive bonuses on good quality work.

Transcribe Team pays once per week on Mondays with Paypal.

The Job

In addition to transcribing files, it looks like you can also get paid for editing transcription. I don’t see on the website how much this pays, but usually editing transcription pays a little less than transcribing does.

Open worldwide?

I’m not clear on whether or not this open worldwide. I can’t find where it says anything specifically about that on their website. However, the application page does let you select from a variety of different countries, so I’m guessing that it is.

Schedule

This is one of those log in and work when you want opportunities. You can do work anytime provided they have it posted. I don’t see any mention of a quota or minimum amount of work you have to do.

Application Process

This looks very simple … you just fill out your basic details and then transcribe two sample files. Be sure to read their style guide thoroughly before you start so you’ll get everything right. They will contact you if your samples are up to their standards. I’m not clear on whether or not they send rejection emails. There are several people who claim to have applied and just not heard back.

Earnings Potential

It is clearly displayed on the Transcribe Team homepage that the average earnings for most of their workers is $132 per month. This is definitely not much, so it makes me think you won’t get much more than extra money and experience from this company. However, it says that the top monthly earnings are $2,282 per month, so apparently some people may be doing a lot better than average.

Feedback

Initially, a lot of people were suspicious of Transcribe Team because their style guide is (or was) the exact same one that Rev was using. Transcribe Team actually posted on the WAHM forum back in October looking for transcribers and they were immediately called out on that. Lots of people were also suspicious because their whois info didn’t match their website. It was also mentioned that this was a very new company, and people were immediately not trusting because of that. Transcribe Team was very responsive to all this at WAHM and directly addressed these concerns.
Since then, there have been people reporting that they were paid. I also found a blog post here about Transcribe Team where actual payment proof has been posted.
If you decide to apply, all I can really say is just to go into it prepared to earn nothing more than extra money and consider it a bonus if it turns out to be more than that for you.
