SpinGo Event Content Specialist – Non Phone Job From Home

I came across an interesting non-phone job lead the other day for a company called SpinGo that I thought I would share some information on since so many of you are looking for non-phone. The position is called “Event Content Specialist” and basically what you are doing is finding events in your area and then entering them into SpinGo’s database of events.
This is a US only, independent contractor position.

About SpinGo

SpinGo is a site that makes it easy for people to find events in their local area, kind of like an event search engine. I can’t confirm for sure how long the company has been in existence just from looking at the website, but I do know that the event content specialist job was also being advertised last year (2012).

The Job

As mentioned above, it sounds like you are basically seeking out events going in the area where you live and adding them to their vast event calendar. So it appears to be pretty much basic data entry.

Pay

The job posting says you can expect to earn between $10 to $25 per hour, but the job does not pay hourly. Instead, it’s per event submitted, and you will only get paid for the events that SpinGo approves. I’ve read some feedback saying that they do provide guidelines letting you know which events would and would not get approved, so hopefully if you are careful with the events you submit and make sure they meet the guidelines, your events will get approved and you’ll be paid.
The amount you earn per event will depend on your rank. Newbies apparently earn the least at just .50 cents per entry.

Payment Method & Frequency

An old thread from Work Place Like Home has a comment from someone saying they pay twice monthly and they pay with Paypal. Also, there is someone on there saying they were paid as promised.

Schedule

It looks like you may need to commit to at least 15 hours per week, but it appears to be very flexible. You do have a certain quota of events to submit based on your rank. Newbies must submit at least 500 entries per month and I also read that if you don’t submit at least 100 entries the first week, your contract gets terminated.

Work Consistency

It’s project-based, contract work so it probably isn’t a good idea to depend on it for a long-term thing. The job listing doesn’t indicate how long the work lasts.

Tech Requirements

This is non-phone, so high speed internet and a computer are all you need.

Application Process

The application process might have changed since last year, but the thread I found on Work Place Like Home gave a little information on how it goes. After you apply, you might get invited to do a phone interview and if hired, you’ll have to fax them some paperwork. Then after training you can start working.

Training

There is a training session that lasts for one hour before you can start work.

Positions to Fill

It looks like they may only need one person for each area, so your chances of getting in may depend on how much competition there is. You can go here to see the job listings with the various locations that are open.

Feedback

There is some feedback on this position. Here are the links to the feedback I found:
As you can see, the WPLH feedback is mostly good. The company appears to be paying and the people who are doing it say it is fun work. However, the two reviews posted on Glassdoor indicate this position is not at all worth the time. You’ll just need to read these and decide for yourself if you want to give this a try, but also read the other thread linked above where an employee from SpinGo does address the negative Glassdoor feedback.
Update 8/9/13 – One of my readers on my Facebook page messaged me to let me know that she currently works for SpinGo and is not at all satisfied with the job. She says she feels everything is very unorganized and the rules there regarding what’s acceptable and what isn’t as far as what events you submit changes frequently and you end up getting events you submitted deleted, therefore losing money. She also said that it’s impossible to make any real money with all the events that get deleted, and that most people only last for a couple of weeks and then quit because they get so frustrated. According to this reader, SpinGo is not worth the time. I shared this with you because the reader who contacted me felt very strongly about this and didn’t want anyone to waste their time at this company. But again you will need to decide for yourself if you want to try it based on everything you read. If you work for SpinGo and have good things to say, please share it! Hope this helps!
